Time flies when you’re having fun. That’s how my recent trip to Jamaica went, in a flash! At first, I wasn’t sure if 8 days would be too long, but since I hadn’t been there in at least 5 years, there was a lot of catching up to do with friends, family, and food. Ha yes, you read that right. I used to live in Jamaica for 4 1/2 years when I was a teenager, during which time I meet some great people and experienced a unique culture. I also learned patois, it’s fairly easy once you’re around the dialect for a few weeks.
It’s funny how you forget how good something is until you have it again. That’s how I feel about Devon House patties & ice cream. Though, I never really forget I just try not to think about their flaky, crunchy, flavor pattie packed bites! There’s really nothing like it. Then for dessert, my favorite ice cream in the world is Rum & Raisin at the Devon House I Scream shop, my mouth waters just thinking about it. Not only do I get to enjoy delicious ice cream made with Jamaican Rum, but also the picturesque historic grounds which make up Devon House. Known as a museum & national heritage site, the estate was originally built in 1881 as the home of the city’s first black millionaire. They have done a great job maintaining the grounds and this is truly one of my favorite places in Kingston, Jamaica.
Overall, I had a great time seeing old friends and catching up like we had never missed a day. Also loved seeing the ever green mountains with all its hills and valleys. I made sure to schedule two runs/walks up Mountain Spring with my dad. It’s a tough mountain and it’s a heck of a workout, where you can enjoy incredible views of the city from the top, and then some fruits & coconut water from the rasta man that sets up shop at the foot of the hill. What a great vacation! I even got to take some pics at my friend’s beautiful home, located at the top of this very mountain. The views are like no other.
After eating well and spending time with great company it was time to head to home. As soon as I returned to Miami, I was back on the grind like I never left. With refreshed energy, I’m motivating myself to push harder, work smarter, Q3 let’s go.
